5 Questions To Ask When Choosing A Swimming Pool Contractor

Swimming Pool Liners - Onsite Lining Vs One Piece Liner-1

So you want to invest in a swimming pool. Which company do you select to install a pool that is going to last for many, many years and bring your family hours of joy and entertainment? The answer is very important because it can be the difference between complete satisfaction with your pool… or the pool from hell.

Unimportant Things

Let’s start with some irrelevant things. What the brochures look like is unimportant. Even the worst contractor can commission a stunning brochure and website. The same goes for the size of the company because a small family business can deliver just as good a job as a large national company. What you really want to see is excellent past results. Be wary of being tempted by time limited offers, special deals and promotions unless you’re fully satisfied that the contractor deserves to be on your shortlist in the first place.

1) Referrals And Testimonials

Satisfied clients are usually more than happy to provide a glowing reference for their newly installed pool. The same applies to repairs, maintenance and pool refurbishments. Therefore any half decent pool builder should be able to produce a large list of customer testimonials. Too few might indicate a lack of experience. Be sure to contact at least three from the list and ask about their experience with the pool builder. If possible, ask to visit one and see their pool for yourself.

2) Years Of Experience And Number Of Pools Installed

You want a pool builder who knows swimming pools upside down and inside out. Make sure you specify the number of years building and installing pools and not just number of years in the industry, which could be as anything from a driver to an office worker.

3) Number Of Installations Of Your Chosen Pool Design

This is especially important because a whole raft of new features have come onto the market in recent years, especially in the high end luxury pool sector. They do require specialist expertise and you want to ensure that your contractor is competent to build what you want to a high quality finish.

4) What The Warranty Covers

This is very important. You want a very detailed breakdown of what is covered under the warranty, for how long and who pays for what. Maintenance issues may arise that require something to be replaced, for example. You need to be clear from the outset who owns the responsibility for paying for those things, as well as for labour costs. Compare and contrast what different contractors offer under their guarantee.

5) Insurance

All companies working on your property should have Public Liability Insurance. Any contractor who cannot produce a copy of their insurance cert should not be allowed on your site.
